Step into a whimsical narrative with the GUNNE SAX for ModCloth Grace Peplum Midi Dress. This dress is a contemporary design with a nod to the "prairie girl" aesthetic, featuring just a touch of satin ribbon trim that accents the peplum bodice. A functional front-tie corset cinches gracefully at the waist, flowing into a fully lined, tiered skirt. Adjustable tank-style straps, a smocked back panel for fit—and, as always, side seam pockets. Beauty and function.

With this collection, ModCloth aspires to honor Jessica McClintock's legacy, bringing vintage charm to a new generation.

Very pretty, even with some design flaws

"It’s pretty and I like it. I agree with most of the reviews that the coral colored ribbon is kind of cheap looking and the tie (it’s shiny and slick and doesn’t stay tied and is super long and annoying) and the fabric itself isn’t super high quality. However I feel it’s in line with the quality of most modern clothing these days. The fabric is bright and colorful. The peplum top is sewn to the middle seam in the back and I wish it was loose, yet still not a deal breaker. I wore it to an event and got a lot of compliments!!!! I got a 3X that fit a little loose in the top for me But the bottom part was a little tight. I feel it’s made for a larger bust, smaller belly person! Still I like it enough to keep it"

Disappointed

"Despite other reviews I was really hoping they were wrong and I’d love it. For a long time vintage collector who has always dreamed of a Gunne Sax but never found one in budget or right size, I’m disappointed. As others have stated, materials are cheap - you are definitely paying for the name not the quality. The white ribbon is almost an eyesore as it sticks out from the rest of the dress. The sizing chart is accurate-ish but that doesn’t mean it’s flattering. There are issues with too much material around the under arms. Overall really wish I could be more happy with it especially for what I paid"

Really nice quality and good coverage.

"This fit very well--I'm a busty middle aged size 10, and this dress had enough side boob coverage, which I was worried about. The dress manages to be cute and fresh, yet it does not make me feel like I'm trying to be younger than I am or look overly sexy in a way that I'd feel uncomfortable at work or on an errand. The neckline is summery but not cleavage baring. The quality of this sundress is quite good--it has a lining, the zipper is smooth, and the details are well sewn."

Beautiful but cheap

"Gorgeous dress but has flaws. The tie ribbon is SO CHEAP, like shiny shoe laces. I ended up Tucking it in . My other pet peeve is that the buckles in the back of the straps go sideways no matter what you do. These are major design flaws for such an expensive dress."

Didn't work

"The fit was oddly baggy with my typical size (5'2, 125, got a S). I think the XS would have fit better in the corset area. Like others have mentioned, the ribbon doesn't feel high quality. The colors are lovely, but more coral in person. For me, it felt more costumey than feminine."

Authentic style, great plus size fit

"I bought this dress for a dance performance with a 70s theme, and it was perfect. As someone with a smaller top size than my lower size, I made some alterations to get a more precise fit since I was going to be moving quite a bit on stage. The styling and construction was very similar to the Gunne Sax dresses I wore as a teenager, and it looked great."

Disappointed in quality

"Ordered the large first and was unimpressed. Despite the corset, the fit was boxy. The plastic connecting the straps to the dress felt very cheap and kept sliding into vertical position. The cream colored ties felt like low-quality paracord. Overlooking these issues, I ordered a medium to see if I’d be less bothered by these things if the fit was great. The medium did fit better, but came with a funky zipper that felt seconds away from breaking. Sent them both back."

Returned

"I was so excited for this collection and the dress looked beautiful. First, I agree with other reviewers; the tie on the corset was incredibly cheap which is ridiculous at this price point. There was a lot of gaping around the top which looked ridiculous and I didn’t find the dress flattering overall which is why I returned it."

Gorgeous but needs more attention to detail

"Beautiful dress overall - with a few quirks. 1. The cord used for the lace up front is the cheapest thing I’ve ever seen. Pretty shocking for a $200 dress 2. The fit of the boob area is strange, a lot of extra fabric on the side of the bust. Makes little wings almost. But the color and pattern are wonderful. The coral ribbon details are so nice. Worth it to me to take to the tailor."

Erica (4/5)

Disappointed

"Ordered this and was so hopeful but it may have just run a bit larger and may have needed to size down but it made me look so bulky. Also in the first picture the trim looks cranberry red Nd in the second smaller model looks coral but i really thought it was just the reflection of the light but the ribbon is actually like the coral color which to me looks so bad. And the ribbon does look cheap. The $200 price tag is really not worth it. I will be sadly returning."
